NEW CHALLENGE AT QUOTH THE RAVEN and GOODBYE TO MY HERO

MY HERO, MY PAL, MY GRANDAD
1919-2012

You can skip this bit and scroll down for the new challenge at QUOTH THE RAVEN if you like, but i'd like to quickly explain why i've been missing in action.
On the 23rd of July my treasured Grandad died..... i'd looked after him nearly 6 years... i'd promised him (and my Nan, who died last September)  he'd never go into care or a Nursing home and that he'd die here at home just as he and my Nan had always wanted...... (Nan died in my arms on a sunday afternoon).... but after a week of being given anti biotics at home it was decided he needed stronger ones by IV so i let him go into Hospital.... he seemed to be doing well and the doctor told me that he'd finish the course on the wednesday so he'd be able to come home then...... but it didnt work like that...... he died in his sleep all alone at 5.50am on the Monday morning. I wasnt with him.... i now have to come to terms with breaking my promise and the terrible feeling of guilt.
His ashes were interred with my Nans on Tuesady... they are together again..... i miss them both so much. They were parents to me.... not just grand parents.... the massive whole they have left will never be filled.

Til we meet again.... love you Grandad. x

And now - a further Quest.......  what say thee to the notion of discourse with a creature from eons gone by ? How wouldst thou address such, and what knowledge would he impart to thee. ? Herewith lies a tale of one such encounter - a strange tale indeed - and doth not thy mind race at the thought ?? The tale is entitled "SOME WORDS WITH A MUMMY" .
Perchance a small snippet to whet thine appetite.....Quote:          "Come to me, by all means, my dear good friend, as soon as you receive this. Come and help us to rejoice. At last, by long persevering diplomacy, I have gained the assent of the Directors of the City Museum, to my examination of the Mummy --- you know the one I mean. I have permission to unswathe it and open it, if desirable. A few friends only will be present -- you, of course. The Mummy is now at my house, and we shall begin to unroll it at eleven tonight".
So lets see what you can come up with...... its not a horror story...its a satire.....poking fun at the Victorian obsession with all things Egyptian.

I altered a china doll.... and made a door hanger....... the name of POE's mummy..... ALLAMISTAKEO (funny hey?) is down the right side as you look at the photo.
I hope you'll come and join us this month.......please?

I'd like to enter the following challenges.....

  1. Big, big hugs to you. It's a terrible predicament as I well know....my husband wanted to die in his own bed...but it was not meant to be...please, please know you did all and more that you could.

  2. I am so sorry for your loss and I am sure he meant a long stay in care not a short time when he was in for treatment. I say that as someone who has considered options myself. I bet he felt all the love and attention you have given him. I love the picture you have posted; I can't help smiling at the wee dog waiting for a bit. You can see who he thought would give him some! Take care, Vee xx

  5. Hugs and prayers winging your way. He knew you were home getting your rest to bring him home and that you were there with him in spirit. Since he died peacefully in his sleep I'm sure your Nan was there to take his hand and they are together again. Being my Mom's sole care giver I feel your angst, but take heart he is suffering no longer.
    Your project is great.

  8. Fabulous picture of your Grandad and the twins. You didn't break any promise you thought they were going to make him better. You can't decide when and where (if only we could!). You are such an inspiration as a person and an artist and you should be very very proud. Hugs Andrea xxxxxxxxx

  9. So very sorry for your loss. You didn't break your promise, you just took the best option for him which anyone would've done for someone they cared for. The important thing to remember is that you loved and cared for him right until the end and of that you should be exceptionally proud. If there were more like you the world would be a far better place. x

  11. Beautiful picture of your Grandad and Girls. You didn't break any promises, you did everything that was needed for your Grandad to be comfortable, and I know he will be proud of everything you did for him. He knows you loved him as he loved you, there is no guilt in heaven just love and happiness and it's all the moments that brought happiness and that you felt that love that you need to remember now.

Now for the doll Oh My Goodness!!!! She is a stunner! I love the look of it's face sort of eerie the door hanger is fabulous too!! So happy that you asked me to join you all at QTR you are such an inspiration to me! xxxxxx

  13. Hello Lyn. Very sorry to hear your news but don't feel guilty, on some level your Granddad decided it was time to go and it sounds peaceful.

Unlike your mummy who is clearly looking for someone to terrorize LOL, thank you for including Tanda Teaser in your selection of challenges to share her with. XOXO Zoe

  15. Sorry to hear of your loss. I do hope you let go of your guilt. I don't think you broke any promises. You certainly didn't check your grandfather into a nursing home and sign off on him. You sent him to a hospital short-term to get better before coming home. If the round of antibiotics didn't get it done at the house, you certainly moved to the next sensible step and neither of you had any idea what was going to happen. The fact that he went in his sleep makes me feel as if he peacefully let go and I'm sure never wanted you to feel guilt over it.
    Thinking of you!

  27. Oh BD, I feel so bad for you. Grandad was not alone when he crossed over, Nan was there to guide him! The most important part is that they are together again! Neither Grandad or Nan are alone any more they have each other and are watching over the twins, making sure they stay safe. Forever Angles are watching over you girls!! It's hard not to fell guilt, I can totally understand that. But it to will pass! Grandad totally knew you did your absolute best for him and Nan they both Love you and the dragonetts!! I love you my friend, I hope you feel better soon, I really do, I know it's so hard tho!
    Great projects!!
    Peace,
    Kristy
