JULY'S SMEARED AND SMUDGED MEMBERS HOP

Well its been a while since i blogged for various reasons,
but i'm here now so lets get on with it!
We members of the SMEARED AND SMUDGED FORUM have a blog hop every month,
(the forum is FREE to join)
this months theme is STEAMY.
It is also my day to post on the DE-STEMPELWINKEL designers blog,
so I have combined the two with this time consumming project.
Below is the full blog roll... you can hop in any order you like....
please visit everyone as i'm sure you'll love what these lasses have created.

I saw a programme a few weeks ago about the 'Antikythera mechanism',
I loved the look of the corroded metal so i tried to replicate it on this altered clock.

I used clay, rolled out thinly and stamped into it.
Once the clay sheets were baked I adhered them to the clock.
I added flakes of dry clay and filler to the edges to give the appearance of the outer casing being corroded away.

Once everything was totally dry i painted the entire clock with black paint.
Then dry brushed with dark brown and mid brown paint.
I stamped the centre of the clock face with a watch mechanism stamp,
for added interest.
To give it a real rusty corroded appearance i used ORIGINAL RUST,
rubbed all over it....twice.
Below you can see the rusty detail.... i think it looks pretty authentic.
All the stamps come from DE-STEMPELWINKEL
Happy hopping.... off you go to see what SANDY has instore for you.
Thanks for stopping by. BDx

I'd like to enter the following challenges...
RHEDDS CREATIVE SPIRIT... ANYTHING GOES.

  2. Love this, and knowing what the inspiration piece looks like, I think you captured the idea very well. I really must try this technique - keep putting it off - but it is such a versatile way to add decorative elements and interest. Great project - hopping onward now...

  5. Wow, your time piece is amazing. I am going to go look up Antikythera mechanism just to see what it is. In any case, I love your piece and the clay stamped covering. I never would have thought to use dried clay flakes to make it look corroded, but you certainly achieved the look. The original rust product looks amazing, too. I am definitely going to try this technique for myself. TFS
